A native of Texas, Dr. Spata’s interest in cardiothoracic surgery began at a young age while volunteering at The Texas Heart Institute. He earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Science on ischemic heart disease and underwent general surgery training at The Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. He recently completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at The University of Minnesota.
Throughout his years of training, Dr. Spata has earned numerous patient care awards with a focus on cardiac surgical outcomes. His training has exposed him to the latest minimally-invasive techniques in cardiac and thoracic surgery. With an emphasis on upholding cardiothoracic surgery quality and patient safety, Dr. Spata believes in continuing patient-focused care.
